Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities are neurologically based impairments that affects a process or mode of learning. A child may have a learning disability either in reading, writing,
spelling, arithmetic, listening, speaking or drawing. This means a child can be a gifted mathematician but have a learning disability in language learning.




Signs and Symptoms
Common signs and symptoms include:

• Difficulty in reading
• Difficulty in writing
• Difficulty in mathematics
• Difficulty in listening
• Difficulty in spelling
Common causes include:
• Heredity and genetics
• Problems during pregnancy and at birth
• Malnutrition and exposure to heavy metals e.g. lead
• IQ-Achievement Discrepancy Tests
• Response to Intervention
