Autism or autism spectrum disorder is a range of conditions characterized by difficulties with social and communication skills, restricted and repetitive behavior.
Signs and Symptoms
Common signs and symptoms include:
• Delays in reaching or failure in achieving milestones in
speech and language development.
• Repetitive movements, such as hand flapping, head rolling,
or body rocking.
• Difficulty in social interaction.
• Difficulty in using and/or understanding language in the
absence of hearing impairment.
• Unusual social development e.g. show less attention to social
stimuli, smile and look at others less often, and respond less
to their own name.
Risk Factors
Common causes include:
• Genetic/chromosomal disorders
• Neuronal dysfunctions
• Exposure to air pollution including heaving metals
• Pediatric assessment
• Social skills therapy
• Intensive applied behaviour analysis
• Occupational therapy
